Out of the 1699 suicides due to Poverty in India in 2014, 839 (49%) victims were from Telangana. Andhra Pradesh is second in the list with 192 victims.
839 is a staggering number. Nearly 50 % of the victims in the country from a single state? The districts of Adilababad & Nizamabad have high poverty rates but even then this is too high a number to be true. If the data from the NCRB (National Crime Records Bureau) is to be believed, 'Poverty' would be the 4th major cause for suicides in Telangana in 2014.
Here is a screenshot of the pdf file from the NCRB site.
Data Error ?
Has the NCRB got the data right? Is this a data error or are these numbers really true? If they are true it is going to be a serious issue to tackle for the fledgling state.
